Biography
Asaad Alsaleh is Associate Professor and chair of the Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures (MELC). He is an interdisciplinary scholar, who specializes in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies, and works mainly in the field of Arabic literature and culture. He has published on various topics related to the Middle East, covering Syria, the Arab Spring, and literary analysis of Arabic texts. His books include Voices of the Arab Spring: Personal Stories from the Arab Revolutions (Columbia University Press, 2015) and Historical Dictionary of the Syrian Revolution and Civil War (Rowman & Littlefield, 2021). For the betterment of individuals and communities, he is interested in understanding and promoting DEIJ within academia, society, and beyond. Dr. Alsaleh received his Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas in 2010.
